The Leib Campaign

Welcome! Thank you for taking the time to visit us. Our campaign is about
Trust, Accountability, & Fairness, which I've outlined as "Principles for a Prosecutor."

Shortly after the current County Prosecutor announced he wouldn't run for re-election, I asked myself some hard questions. With families losing jobs and crime rates rising, it's more important than ever to have a prosecutor who is trustworthy, accountable to the public, and fair. I have 14 years of courtroom experience dealing with judges, prosecutors, and criminals, coupled with the executive-level management experience running large organizations which no other candidate has.

When elected, I promise not to ask you, the county taxpayer, for more money. I will better target our resources toward preventing and punishing crimes.

Accountability & priorities are the keys to any successful organization.

We will use modern technology, statistical analysis, and proven human resource managment techniques to accomplish our goals. We will also increase our attention to economic crimes, such as mortgage & deed fraud which harm our economy and deprive families of their most basic needs.

But our primary focus must always be prosecuting the most violent and most heinous crimes, and on protecting the most vulnerable members of society. Where priorities dictate, we will do more and focus more.

As a father of two, you can expect more focus on enforcement of laws that protect our children, and more use of the Prosecutor's office as a conduit to the community and education system. Law enforcement can do more to make sure the right messages are delivered to the community. We need to be tough on predators, but we must also get the message out & teach our children how to be smart in avoiding them. The Prosecutor is the primary public spokesman for the community - first representing the victims of crime, then law enforcement, and then the community at large.

While I believe in tough justice and integrity with no favors for friends caught violating the law, a Prosecutor must know when to charge forward and step back - when to "hold em and when to fold em." There are two extremes, and sadly, both are caused by politics, favoritism, and appearance over substance.

At one extreme is the recent high-profile case of the Duke lacrosse team rape allegations. The Duke Prosecutor knowingly withheld evidence of innocence for political gain. Such prosecutions waste scarce resources better used pursuing real criminals, unjustly burden the falsely accused, and jeopardize thousands of convictions by casting a cloud of dishonesty over the office.

At the other extreme some Prosecutors fail to use common-sense and only pursue certain types of cases, avoiding tough or challenging legal issues so as to keep their "conviction rates" (artificially) high, or they fail to prosecute their friends. Such favoritism is not acceptable.

The Oakland County Prosecutor must always be an example of Trust, Accountability, and Fairness. Our Prosecutor must rise above politics and focus his energy on what is most important - representing the victims of crime.

Truly,

Larry Leib
