Principles for a Prosecutor

Our next Oakland County Prosecutor must be a leader and advocate for the victims of crime. He must be approachable by anyone, any group, or any school who is concerned about crime in the community.

Our next Oakland County Prosecutor must not be a stranger to the law enforcement community, who together with them sets policies for his office and staff to aid and assist them in carrying out justice.

Our next Oakland County Prosecutor must be a model citizen. If you are not one, or don’t intend to be one, you should have the decency not to run for this office. The confidence of the public demands that the Oakland County Prosecutor is beyond reproach. There are no excuses for a person running for Prosecutor who has broken the law or who has put the public at risk, period. There are other types of public service available to anyone where this standard isn’t as stringent.

Our next Oakland County Prosecutor must be a leader with both courtroom experience and executive-level management skills.

Our next Oakland County Prosecutor must be a trial attorney who has argued in the trenches of the law, who will be tough on crime, but who is not afraid to walk away from the battle when justice demands it. Our next Oakland County Prosecutor must be an example of tough but fair justice!

Our next Oakland County Prosecutor must be active in the community and demand that his staff be active as well. The community at-large should know that the Prosecutors Office is concerned with growing and supporting local communities and their endeavors as a whole, not just in the area of law enforcement.

Our next Oakland County Prosecutor must be a genuine advocate for families. Raising children provides a unique perspective and experience in this area.

As the leader of Oakland County’s largest public law firm our next Oakland County Prosecutor must know how to lead a staff of almost 200 people. The Prosecutor must understand how to delegate responsibilities to assistant prosecutors and staff fairly allowing the office to run efficiently.

Our next Oakland County Prosecutor must have respect for the taxpayers. Even in good fiscal times, a Prosecutor still has an obligation to be a good steward of the public trust and to focus on what is important. In our current environment, this is even more obvious.

Just as our next Oakland County Prosecutor must set fiscal priorities, our next prosecutor must also set human priorities in the prosecution of certain types of crimes. Our next prosecutor should emphasize preventing and prosecuting crimes against children, seniors, and families. The most vulnerable members of society should be the most protected.

As one of Oakland County’s six county-wide elected officials our next Oakland County Prosecutor must be a team player who will work tirelessly with the other elected officials to keep our county government strong and a model to the taxpayers everywhere.
